Cisco® ASR 1000 series routing processors can meet the routing processing requirements of carrier-grade IP and Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) packet infrastructure. Features and advantages
Because of the advanced functions in the Cisco ASR 1000 series route processor, many other functions can be performed depending on the route, including:
● Establish and distribute forwarding information to Cisco ASR 1000 Series Embedded Service Processor (ESP)
● Implement session border controller (SBC) setup and teardown, and apply for session policies for voice streams and video streams separately
● Provide a portal for stateful firewall policy configuration and distribution to the ESP forwarding engine
● Negotiate and maintain IP security (IPsec 1) authentication, encryption methods and encryption keys（Internet Key Exchange [IKE]）
As the management processor of the Cisco ASR 1000 series routers, the Cisco ASR 1000 series router processors can automatically perform the following system management functions:
● Load the operating system software system image to all installed line cards according to power-on or operator commands
● Synchronize the status conditions of redundant Cisco IOS XE software, route processor and embedded service processor components
● Perform uninterrupted failover for redundant solutions
● Provide out-of-band system console and auxiliary ports, USB and Ethernet ports for router configuration and maintenance
● In the event of a catastrophic Cisco IOS software failure, allow direct access to the system through the operating system kernel
● Monitor and manage the temperature of power supplies and system components such as line cards, power supplies and fans

The Cisco ASR 1006 and ASR 1013 routers support fully redundant route processors, allowing complete route processor hardware redundancy, in-service software upgrade (ISSU), non-stop forwarding (NSF), and route processor service upgrades.
For the single route processor Cisco ASR 1000 platform (Cisco ASR 1001, ASR 1002 fixed, ASR 1002, ASR1002-X and ASR 1004), the route processor has dual Cisco IOS software options, allowing these routers to use Cisco’s industry-leading Unblocked features, Cisco IOS software redundancy, ISSU, and NSF. These features require the Cisco ASR 1000 series RP1 to have 4 GB of DRAM memory. The Cisco ASR 1000 series RP2 supports Cisco IOS software redundancy, ISSU and NSF, and its default 8-GB DRAM memory.
LAN port
Both the Cisco ASR 1000 Series RP1 and Cisco ASR 1000 Series RP2 have a single copper cable (RJ-45) 10/100/1000 management Ethernet end.
SDRAM
The Cisco ASR 1000 Series RP1 can support 2 GB or 4 GB of synchronous dynamic RAM (SDRAM). Since the card has 2 SDRAM slots, a 2 GB routing processor can accommodate two 1-GB dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs), and a 4 GB routing processor can accommodate two 2-GB DIMMs.
The Cisco ASR 1000 Series RP2 can support 8 GB or 16 GB of SDRAM. Because the card has 4 SDRAM slots, an 8 GB routing processor can accommodate two 2-GB dual in-line memory modules (DIMMs), while 16 GB The routing processor can hold two 4-GB DIMMs.
Hard disk drive
The Cisco ASR 1000 Series RP1 and RP2 provide hard drives for code storage, system configuration, and log files. RP1 provides a 40-GB hard drive installed on its motherboard. The RP1 hard drive is field replaceable, but not hot-swappable. The Cisco ASR 1000 Series RP2 provides an 80-GB hard drive that can be front-mounted, field-replaced, and hot-swappable.
